As a member of BECOR, you:
Attendance at BECOR’s events can earn you from 17 to 24 credits per year (depending on each year’s program). Plus, the costs for those credits is very competitive in comparison to most organizations.
BECOR’s education and technology transfer program comprises of monthly “Lunch and Learn” and webinar educational seminars, plus periodic half-day and/or full day technical sessions. Our program commences in September and runs through until June. In addition, BECOR strives to include an interesting field trip each year. Such field trips often are “members only” events, due to limited capacity.
BECOR’s seminars tend to be technical in nature and are focused on better building practices, better detailing, failure analysis, investigative methodologies, advanced technologies and techniques in the design, construction and performance of building envelopes. In other words, topics that are top-of-mind to our design and construction community.
Our technical seminars are led by nationally and internationally recognized building envelope experts and specialists as well as leading practitioners in the local community that are adopting and advancing building science knowledge at a practical level; all of whom provide our members with the most up-to-date and relevant information.
Our members not only embody learning as a life-long commitment but as a reality of professional development. Building practices, technologies and materials are ever-changing and one must stay informed, educated and enlightened to succeed now and into the future. In addition, BECOR seminars count towards the continued education requirements as established by the various professional associations.
BECOR’s members represent a broad spectrum of stakeholders in the local building industry: designers, researchers, builders, owners, users, suppliers and authorities. The informal ‘meet and greet’ format that precedes our monthly seminars allows our members to network with other colleagues in the industry; sharing experiences, knowledge and ideas with fellow members or maybe just to share a meal and a few laughs with an old friend.
BECOR’s seminar platform provides an opportunity to promote members in the local community that are undertaking amazing state-of-the-art projects related to building envelope design, construction and performance. In recognition and acknowledgement of their ongoing support and commitment to BECOR’s mandate, the corporate logos of our corporate members are proudly displayed on our website.
With BECOR’s focus on educating each other and improving design and construction practices, this focus extends to students in our industry, through bursaries with Algonquin and Carleton and offering free attendance to students. Free student attendance includes a deliberate focus on students during periodic special events, whereby session attendees can view examples of the students’ work (often involving research) and converse with these budding professionals. Such events give you and your organization a unique opportunity to find a future star and entice them to your organization before they are in full blown career-search mode.
